The mountains belong to one of the earth’s oldest geologic formations, the „Guayana Shield“ dating back to the Precambrian Era, some two billion years ago. As the climate on their plateaus differs so much from the climate of the surrounding areas the flora and fauna on the plateaus got isolated and as a consequence many of the tepuis developed their own species in a kind of microevolution. Beeing on top of a table mountain (tepui) and exploring its surface is one of the most memorable experiences of people’s lives. One small step onto a Tepui’s surface is one giant leap onto another planet. It’s the Earth, but not as we know it.
